Weighing: Qur’an Verses

وَلَا تَقْرَبُوا مَالَ الْيَت۪يمِ اِلَّا بِالَّت۪ي هِيَ اَحْسَنُ حَتّٰى يَبْلُغَ اَشُدَّهُۚ وَاَوْفُوا الْكَيْلَ وَالْم۪يزَانَ بِالْقِسْطِۚ لَا نُكَلِّفُ نَفْسًا اِلَّا وُسْعَهَا وَاِذَا قُلْتُمْ فَاعْدِلُوا وَلَوْ كَانَ ذَا قُرْبٰىۚ وَبِعَهْدِ اللّٰهِ اَوْفُواۜ ذٰلِكُمْ وَصّٰيكُمْ بِه۪ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَۙ

and do not touch the substance of an orphan – save to improve it-before he comes of age." And [in all your dealings] give full measure and weight, with equity: [however,] We do not burden any human being with more than he is well able to bear; and when you voice an opinion, be just, even though it be [against] one near of kin. And [always] observe your bond with Allah: this has He enjoined upon you, so that you might keep it in mind.

وَالْوَزْنُ يَوْمَئِذٍۨ الْحَقُّۚ فَمَنْ ثَقُلَتْ مَوَاز۪ينُهُ فَاُو۬لٰٓئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ

And true will be the weighing on that Day; and those whose weight [of good deeds] is heavy in the balance -it is they, they who shall attain to a happy state;

وَمَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَاز۪ينُهُ فَاُو۬لٰٓئِكَ الَّذ۪ينَ خَسِرُٓوا اَنْفُسَهُمْ بِمَا كَانُوا بِاٰيَاتِنَا يَظْلِمُونَ

whereas those whose weight is light in the balance – it is they who will have squandered their own selves by their wilful rejection of Our messages.

وَاِلٰى مَدْيَنَ اَخَاهُمْ شُعَيْبًاۜ قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللّٰهَ مَا لَكُمْ مِنْ اِلٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۜ قَدْ جَٓاءَتْكُمْ بَيِّنَةٌ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ فَاَوْفُوا الْكَيْلَ وَالْم۪يزَانَ وَلَا تَبْخَسُوا النَّاسَ اَشْيَٓاءَهُمْ وَلَا تُفْسِدُوا فِي الْاَرْضِ بَعْدَ اِصْلَاحِهَاۜ ذٰلِكُمْ خَيْرٌ لَكُمْ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُؤْمِن۪ينَۚ

AND UNTO [the people of] Madyan [We sent] their brother Shu'ayb. He said: "O my people! Worship Allah alone: you have no deity other than Him. Clear evidence of the truth has now come unto you from your Sustainer. Give, therefore, full measure and weight [in all your dealings], and do not deprive people of what is rightfully theirs; and do not spread corruption on earth after it has be, en so well ordered: [all] this is for your own good, 'if you would but believe.

وَاِلٰى مَدْيَنَ اَخَاهُمْ شُعَيْبًاۜ قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللّٰهَ مَا لَكُمْ مِنْ اِلٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۜ وَلَا تَنْقُصُوا الْمِكْيَالَ وَالْم۪يزَانَ اِنّ۪ٓي اَرٰيكُمْ بِخَيْرٍ وَاِنّ۪ٓي اَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ مُح۪يطٍ

AND UNTO [the people of] Madyan [We sent] their brother Shu'ayb. He said: "O my people! Worship Allah [alone]: you have no deity other than Him; and do not give short measure and weight [in any of your dealings with men]. Behold, I see you [now] in a happy state; but, verily, I dread lest suffering befall you on a Day that will encompass [you with doom]!

وَيَا قَوْمِ اَوْفُوا الْمِكْيَالَ وَالْم۪يزَانَ بِالْقِسْطِ وَلَا تَبْخَسُوا النَّاسَ اَشْيَٓاءَهُمْ وَلَا تَعْثَوْا فِي الْاَرْضِ مُفْسِد۪ينَ

Hence, O my people, [always] give full measure and weight, with equity, and do not deprive people of what is rightfully theirs, and do not act wickedly on earth by spreading corruption.

وَاَوْفُوا الْكَيْلَ اِذَا كِلْتُمْ وَزِنُوا بِالْقِسْطَاسِ الْمُسْتَق۪يمِۜ ذٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ وَاَحْسَنُ تَأْو۪يلًا

And give full measure whenever you measure, and weigh with a balance that is true: this will be [for your own] good, and best in the end.

اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ الَّذ۪ينَ كَفَرُوا بِاٰيَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ وَلِقَٓائِه۪ فَحَبِطَتْ اَعْمَالُهُمْ فَلَا نُق۪يمُ لَهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيٰمَةِ وَزْنًا

it is they who have chosen to deny their Sustainer's messages and the truth; that they are deseined to meet Him." Hence, all their [good] deeds come to nought, and no weight shall We assign to them on Resurrection Day.

فَمَنْ ثَقُلَتْ مَوَاز۪ينُهُ فَاُو۬لٰٓئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ

And they whose weight [of righteousness] is heavy in the balance – it is they, they who will have attained to a happy state;

وَمَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَاز۪ينُهُ فَاُو۬لٰٓئِكَ الَّذ۪ينَ خَسِرُٓوا اَنْفُسَهُمْ ف۪ي جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدُونَۚ

whereas they whose weight is light in the balance – it is they who will have squandered their own selves, [destined] to abide in hell:

وَزِنُوا بِالْقِسْطَاسِ الْمُسْتَق۪يمِۚ

and [in all your dealings] weigh with a true balance,

وَاَق۪يمُوا الْوَزْنَ بِالْقِسْطِ وَلَا تُخْسِرُوا الْم۪يزَانَ

weigh, therefore, [your deeds] with equity, and cut not the measure short!

فَاَمَّا مَنْ ثَقُلَتْ مَوَاز۪ينُهُۙ

And then, he whose weight [of good deeds] is heavy in the balance

فَهُوَ ف۪ي ع۪يشَةٍ رَاضِيَةٍۜ

shall find himself in a happy' state of life;

وَاَمَّا مَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَاز۪ينُهُۙ

whereas he whose weight is light in the balance

فَاُمُّهُ هَاوِيَةٌۜ

shall be engulfed by an abyss.
